on the design wall

Just playing with squares on the design wall...seeing what might develop.

The rescued muslin from the dye bucket is now drying on my little red wagon. After it's cured, rinsed and pressed I'll see what designs may develop.

Patience is a vurtue...I know...

another crime scene?

I know this looks...um...gross? After 2 weeks on the porch (forgotten), the bucket of walnut leaves and poke berries had fermented and developed a mystery scum. Naturally I gave it a stir.
I thought it would be the perfect place for a wide muslin strip. I'll check the results on Monday to see where I go with it next.

butterflies and bears

After using walnut hulls and poke berries to dye my faithful painting shirt, I have found butterflies and dancing panda bears in the resulting designs. Some are one inch small...some are large but ever so pale. Decisions arise as to what comes next...

scene of the crime

My faithful cotton painting shirt hung on the back of the chair.

While walking Racer dog, I gathered walnut leaves downed by last night's storm. The rusty hammer was just laying there on the porch...

...and I couldn't help myself. The poke berries were watching, so they had to join in.

Juice...there was just so much juice!!

Hiding the evidence was easy. Rubber bands found in the junk drawer hold everything together while I decide what happens next.

I won!

I won this basket of fat quarters at the Saturday grand re-opening of Sew-Bee-It quilt shop in Ringgold GA!
I added the darks (rose, brown and teal) so I'll have enough for a quilt I have in mind.
Now...to get busy.

'not so fabulous' fabric

At a recent quilt club meeting, we were all given the same 3 fabrics and challenged to make 12" squares using the "not so fabulous" fabric.

I chose the 'Rail Fence' design, since I'm new to quilting (although I've been sewing since I was 9 years old).

I added a darker fabric of my own and did this abstracted square...which turned out to be my favorite. We deliver our squares at Tuesday night's meeting. I'm curious to see what other members might construct from the fabric.

feathers for Jude

walnut hull dyed tea towel, backed with muslin, a feather from my walk with Racer (good dog!)

I seem to be focused on dyeing with naturals lately. Walnut hulls, dried carnation blooms, rusty nails, privet hedge berries, beets...they all have personality when added to torn cotton, vinegar and a little salt. I've just completed my first feather to be sent to Jude for her Magic Feather Project. Click on the Magic Feather badge to see all the project details.
